The story of Handcrafted Custom Framed Fine Art Prints

Prairie Princess_ArtDeco_16x10 frame_sm.png

My handcrafted fine art prints combine my love of photography, drawing, and woodworking into a unique composite of the three crafts. I’m the photographer, the pencil artist, the wood crafter who shapes the moulding used in the solid hardwood frame, the glass cutter, and the framer. Each piece is a handcrafted unique work of art in itself, hand-signed and numbered. The subject of the photograph and drawing are always related somehow.

Pencil-drawing.jpgEach art piece is protected with UV-resistant, anti-reflective museum quality glass or acrylic, depending on the style of frame.

I make my own moulding starting with rough board lumber from select, solid hardwood varieties. Scott_router.jpgSometimes the finished frames are one species of wood, but more often I use 2 different woods for accents. I'm also beginning to experiment with different woods, dyes and stains.

Once the framed piece is completed the back is sealed with a custom dust cover to protect it and I apply an artist's plate with a description and authentication of the artwork.

Voila! The finished piece

Custom, Handcrafted Framing

All prints are available as a Handcrafted Custom Framed Print

framing_styles_5611_web.pngAny print can be combined with a handcrafted, custom hardwood frame with or without a companion mat board.

Pictured are three styles of handcrafted moulding I currently produce, but I'm always open to new ideas and always working on my own new framing concepts.

Art Deco Mahogany: Any species of light colored wood with the rough bark left intact on the sides. I add Art Deco corner devices, and a high-gloss Mahogany finish. A unique contrast between the rough bark and the high-gloss finish for an intriguing presentation.

Art Deco Cherry w/Black Walnut: These frames are made from Cherry, which darkens over time, and uses Art Deco corner devices made of Black Walnut in varying arrangements.

Black Walnut: This Black Walnut moulding is clean, elegant and minimal, setting off the artwork nicely.

Although printed mat boards are one of my trademarks, the mat may also be clear of imagery and in its pristene condition.

Finally, I use anti-reflective, UV-resistent, museum-quality glass or acrylic to cover and protect my prints.

Commissioned Artwork

Got an idea?

I love the challenge of designing and fabricating commissioned, custom artwork. If you have an idea for a unique piece of art, please talk to me. Whether it’s a single piece or limited edition, I’m excited to talk with you...

Below is a commissioned piece of artwork I currently produce for the Nevada Northern Railway Historic Landmark, a railway museum in Ely, Nevada.
Nevada Princess_13x19_sm.pngThe art piece is titled, “Nevada Princess” and is a commemorative work which is sold by the museum as part of their fundraising efforts. They provide the commemorative coin, I produce everything else.

Many Custom Options

Print: Use one of my images or your own!

Frame:
~  I can create almost any shape of frame. Of course, more complicated frames cost more due to the amount of work involved.
~  I work with Black Walnut, Cherry, and woods I harvest myself. I try to accommodate specific wood requests, but typically this is more expensive.

Matting
~  Use one of my existing drawings or no drawing on the mat board
~  or commission an original drawing

Finishing
~  I use anti-reflective, UV-resistent, museum quality glass or acrylic.

Editions
~  One-of-a-kind or limited edition
